Wingapo friends!
Cambodia is such an adventure. The people and culture are kind and respectful. The country is beautiful, and my team is wonderful. We are in a small town near the Thai border. In the morning we do house visits around the city, and in the afternoon we assist in an English school (shout out to Apple School). Everyday has been full of tears and laughter.
I have been placed in a classroom with about twelve students and a teacher. Truthfully, I am not a great teacher. It is not a gift I have. I can tutor, but teaching is iffy at best. Fortunately for the students and I, I was paired with an excellent teacher and wonderful students. The class is extremely advanced and the teacher remarkably fluent in English. My teacher tells me what he wants from me (usually pronunciation) and I do it. Because unlike teaching, following directions is something I am good at.
Working with this class I cannot help but think about how much they have blessed me. The students work hard; they are silly, and for some reason, they have let me befriend them. I love seeing them and they do not run screaming when I show up. Everyday, I show up and pray for these students and teachers. Despite the fact that I am a horrible teacher, the class, teacher, and even the school has been very welcoming and exceedingly personable with us. More than just on a surface level. Everyday, these people ask us how we are; how our day was; we are enjoying Cambodia, etc. For some reason, they really seem to care about the answers. Though this work is unconventional, I love the relationships that are being built and being able to get to know these wonderful people.
On another note, I am less than a thousand dollars away from being fully funded! What a blessing! Wow! Talk about God moving in big ways.
