So like Moses I have never really felt like I was so elegant with words. Over the years I have realized that God is working through me anyway. He is giving me the words to say and the stories to share.
So here is what is going on lately. I’ve been ask about what ministry looks like for me this year. What it’s like to live in a van and travel with a community 24/7. So I am going to take some time to answer these question.
1st- what does ministry look like this year?
Well, it depends.
Let me give you a little recap if my international trip I took back in 2016-17 through South America. We would travel into each country and find people of peace and partner with them in what they already doing, being door to door evangelism, or sharing a testimony on Sunday morning. Preaching, teaching, painting or digging we did it all.
Now that I am traveling stateside, it’s the opposite. We have a lot of relational service, and pinch of labor.
So what’s that mean relational ministry?
We get the pleasure of meeting World Race Alumni, as we travel. We end up staying in the homes and end up becoming apart of their community for a week or so. It could look like one day sharing in a small group, having dinner with them. Listening to all that the Lord has done, and hearing about how they have struggle. Creating a safe space where not only the lost can be found, but the unheard to be heard and loved on for the life they are living.
Another aspect of our mission is the people we are with 24/7. We get an opportunity every day to steward the relationship of those that we are doing life with. And to that we have to take time to connect as a team as a family. That can look like a variety of things from hiking in unknown places, eating meals family style, and prayer and worship. Taking the time to love through each other by honoring our prayers and desires. Taking the time to love each other even if we don’t agree on things. We are learning what it means to be a body of believers that above anything we love one another just like Christ loves us.
Through these months we have seen more of God’s children come alive in their communities. Its be beautiful to see hearts being restored to the Father.
2nd- What does it look like to live in a van?
Well its not at as as glamours as you may think. There’s about eight in each van, with each person having one big bag, one backpack and on top of that all that a sprinkle of this and that, from food to shoes to blankets all stuffed in the any empty space possible.
On travel days you could here on the radio is a shuffle playlist to entertain the driver and co-pilot and for the rest us we can either enjoy along or put in your headphones and enjoy the drive. We make conversation, when stops are made we comment about the restroom situation or how the gas station employee was kind or that someone prayed for someone in the parking lot. Depending on where we are staying we either unload all luggage, or just pull put what is needed for one night. We make lunch stops with great views and sometimes gas stops that look like tee-pees!
Van life is a life of countless pee breaks and routine maintenance and unexpected maintenance. Upon the arrival to our host we are greeted with such JOY and generous hospitality. Along with the van each housing has truly become our home away from home.
I hope that this shines a little light on what I’m doing and what van life is like. I have more stories to share with you. So please subscribe so you don’t miss the a stories.
