It all started the other day. I sent my mom a quick message, “Hey, is it too late to change my mind and ask for the room upstairs?” I’ll be staying at my parents house when I get back from the race. They had offered me a choice of the room in the back corner of the basement, my dad’s “office” with plywood walls or the extra room upstairs. I had originally chosen downstairs so they could have other guests upstairs and I wasn’t planning on staying long. I’m still not, but I wanted to have a place with sunlight that could be a peaceful place to transition back to the states.
I almost immediately got a message back from my mom, “I’ll get the room ready!” The conversation continued and I didn’t think anything else about it until this morning. We were in church and we sang a song that said, “In my Father’s house there’s a place for me.” As I was singing that, it hit me: In God’s house, there is always space for us. Just like my parents open their home to me and say, “Come. I’ll get the room ready.” Our Father God always welcomes us into His presence and His kingdom. He tells us to come and he will ready a place for us.
How awesome is it to realize we belong with God? We aren’t a burden to him. He celebrates when we come to abide with him. It’s so easy to not want to bother God. We think we can handle things ourselves or that we’ll just take the bare minimum. But God has no problem making room for us and even giving us the room with the sunlight and walls to hang things. God just wants us to come and spend time with us.
So what are you waiting for? He’s already got the room ready.
