Twas the night before leaving, when all through the hotel
All world racers were packing, dreaming of stories they’d tell
The packs were all stuffed with no room to spare,
What didn’t fit, they’d have to leave there;
With all this excitement, how could they dare sleep?
One couldn’t help but think of all the strangers they’d meet.
The staff sighed knowing they’d done all the could
Would these world racers be the church that they should?
They’d taught and they’d trained them for this day to come
Having to trust God to see the outcome.
So the racers settled in whispering of what this year would hold
Can we really do this? Will we be quite that bold?
The night passed quickly, some up before the dawn
Speaking of coffee, they let out a yawn
When what to their wandering eyes did appear?
All their squadmates loaded up with all of their gear
Outside the doors the first airport shuttle arrived,
Some racers jumped aboard while others wanted to hide.
So they climbed on with all the courage they could muster,
Wanting to get out of the cold wind that blustered
On Q Squad! On R Squad! On S squad and T.
Grab your bags, grab your coats, we’re ready to leave!
What teams do we have? We only have three?
The other teams waited for more shuttles with glee
They arrived at the airport giddy with anticipation,
To share Christ’s love with the people of all nations
So onto the plane they loaded their packs
Thinking of how long this journey would last
They laughed as they thought of the journey this far
The things they gave up, some even sold their cars
All the sacrifices had been worth every single second
They had responded to the call that God had beckoned
Please pray for these racers as they go through this year
That they would be courageous, God’s voice they would hear
As they go through their days making God’s name known,
Partnered with those praying at home.
