I have a rule that where my bible falls is what I’m supposed to read. (It’s a good rule. You should try it sometimes. Talk about a challenge when you get in some of those OT laws!) Recently, I thought I was supposed to continue to read in Proverbs, one of my teammates did a listening prayer for me and said there is something I’m supposed to hear. Absentmindedly, I opened Psalm 3 on accident. Following my own rule, that’s what I decided to study.

As I was sitting in a hammock in Montrouis, Haiti I was struck. I had read this before. I had heard it the first time under a tin roof in the pouring rain in Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica on my very first missions trip.

“But you, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head.”-Psalms 3:3

It was the trip that changed the trajectory of my life.

It was, and is, a verse that holds truth that echoes into every facet of my life.

My shield.

My glory.

The lifter of my head.

As I begin the beginning of the end of this beautiful journey, I still can’t believe I’m here. Still can’t believe I’ve been invited and entrusted with this journey.

Every day we evangelize, we see people give their lives to Jesus and begin a relationship with him.

Every day we serve the old folks home, we are met with laughs and kisses.

Every day we step outside of the gate to our home, we are met with high fives, hugs and hands to hold.

My glory.
