This month we taught English in a kindergarten as well as teaching English to children in the community one night a week. We also got to go into the school and have conversational English with some of the year six students.
Here is the plot twist though: in Malaysia it is illegal to evangelise to the muslim population, and the majority of the people around us were muslim. In fact almost anything that would be discussed about religion would be considered evangelism. So we didn’t get to witness to people or tell a lot of people that we were Christians. However, one of the most rewarding days for me this month was the last church service that we were in some of the kids from our community English class walked into the church. These kids were Hindu and I got the opportunity to worship along these kids that had the hindu prayer mark on their forehead. As I walked out of the church I saw their mother standing there and all I could do in that moment was pray for her and praise God for the strength that she had to bring her children to a Christian church. I even looked at my teammate and said, can you imagine how hard that is for her to bring her kids here. I saw God move in big ways this month and mostly with the children. So please join me in praying for them and praying for our hosts as they continue the work there.
It’s so hard to believe that month 5 is over and we are in transition to month 6. The race is halfway over and we are heading to Thailand, one of the countries I have been excited for since before I applied for the race.
This is one of the students that I got to teach in the kindergarten this month. Unlike teaching in Costa Rica, we didn’t talk about religion at all, but we did learn how to count, what the things on our faces are called, and where the window was.
We made the newspaper!!! This month we got invited to the launching of a new program that will allow year six pupils to have conversations with native English speakers so that they can improve their English. It was a big deal, they interviewed us, introduced us, and then wrote 2 newspaper articles about us.
This is our host family for this month and team Radiant. We really enjoyed getting to work alongside of them and getting to know them. This is a powerful and prayerful family that is ready to listen and obey what God tells them.
