It’s pretty incredible to me how the body of Christ works. Really, it’s counter to what our society tells us is normal. In our day and age, it’s ever so important to be independent, self-sufficient, and fully able to provide for all of your own needs. Being in a position where you are looking to others to help provide for your daily needs is seen as negative.
However this isn’t the stance we see in the Bible when we see the church depicted as a human body:
If the whole body were an eye, how would you hear?
If the whole body were an ear, how would you smell?
But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part
just where he wants it.
Yes, there are many parts, but only one body.
The eye can never say to the hand, “I don’t need you.”
The head can’t say to the feet, “I don’t need you.”
All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it.
For as long as I remember, I’ve worked toward independence. For instance, I started working around the age of 12, and continued on to sometimes have 2 or 3 jobs simultaneously, because I wanted to be able to pay for my stuff myself.
But God never intended this to be a solo venture.
This independent state of mind has been forming for a long time (29 years, eek!) It’s only been in the past 2 that I’m learning that it’s not only ok, but sometimes necessary, to bring others aboard. It’s challenging to be in a position of reliance on others, and only continues to stretch me.
I feel so fortunate to have you and others who have jumped on board with what the Lord has called me to, and humbly recognize that it simply wouldn’t be possible on my own.
All of that said, I have a few fundraisers going on concurrently. A friend has offered to make tamales (the best I’ve ever had), to which I have had an incredible response. I’ve also started a mason jar fundraiser, asking people to use the jar to collect their spare change throughout the month. This fundraiser has been a little slower to get going, but I’m hopeful for the rest of the month. If you know of anyone who’d be up for collecting their spare change, lemme know! I’ll deliver a jar to them! Oh, and they don’t even have to be in CO! We can work it out if they’re out of state!
Lastly, as August rapidly approaches, deadlines are flying by, and time is quickly fading. Please pray that I’m able to use my time wisely, but also balance between my to-do list, and family time, and Jesus time. Stress has this way of blowing up that balance, and that just doesn’t bode well.
