Friends, Family, Supporters,
I hope this message finds you well! As most of you already know, about two months ago I returned from an 11 month long mission trip called The World Race. Over the past year, I had the privilege of journeying to 11 different countries to partner with a long list of ministries, churches, and organizations working to further the Gospel.
Over the course of those 11 months, our work consisted of a multitude of different tasks. Among many things, days included activities such as teaching in churches, doing manual labor, sports ministry, working on a farm, watercolor painting with women who had been rescued out of human/sex trafficking, putting on women’s retreats, visiting the local prison, performing skits for churches, teaching English, spending time with kids in after school programs, building relationships with locals in the community, praying with people on the street, discipling teenagers/young adults, etc. It was a year unlike anything I could’ve dreamt up…
If just a few years ago someone had told me that I would end up where I am now, I would’ve told them they were crazy! Life never seems to go the way we plan, does it? At Hillsdale College I majored in Marketing/Management, and post college my dream was to work in the Advertising Industry in Strategy and Planning. My priorities and plans were vastly different than they are now. But the Lord had something planned for me that I couldn’t even begin to imagine, and I am incredibly thankful for that. I wasn’t able to envision the possibilities I didn’t know existed, and as God began to show me new pieces in this puzzle of life, my eyes were opened to opportunities He had for me. Through a series of events, my gracious God brought me to The World Race, and it has been a catalyst for self discovery, as well as a stepping stone for what’s next in my life. In my time away from home, I learned a great deal about myself – natural giftings, my identity in the body of Christ, areas where I struggle, circumstances where I thrive, and I realized new passions the Lord has given me. Among these were 1.) telling people testimonies and stories of how God has worked in my past as well as lessons He’s taught me over the years, and 2.) mentoring and discipling others (aka shepherding them).
During the race I also realized I enjoy leadership. While Team Leading challenged me every single day on the race, it led me to seek the Lord’s counsel all the more and brought me into a place of dependence on Him…trust that He would equip me. Though often difficult, the joy I experienced as I watched my teammates grow and excel in different areas was so worth it. As the race continued, I began thinking about how to mix some of these newly realized passions together in the season following the race. With that being said…I’m excited to share that I’ve decided to co-lead a group of World Racers on their journey. This coming January I will lead a new Squad for the first 6 months of their trip. As a Squad Leader (aka SQL), I will be entrusted with a group of young adults (ages 21-35) and will walk alongside/coach them in their own WR experience. Squad leading presents a beautiful opportunity to support, speak into, and guide racers in pursuing a deeper, more intimate relationship with the Lord as they embark on the trip.
Over the course of this 6 months I am scheduled to go to Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Spain, Bulgaria, and Montenegro. Please keep me in your prayers as I prepare for this endeavor. Similar to the World Race, this is not a paid position. To move forward with Squad Leading, I will need to raise approximately $5,000. This amount will cover my travel, living, and food expenses for the year. Although fundraising can be intimidating, I trust that God will provide if this is the next step He has for me.
