I said YES.

No, not to a man or a career. I get asked about both quite often 😉

I have said YES to leaving my comfort zone and entering an almost yearlong journey of utter surrender. Of leaving behind the things I have come to rely on more than I care to admit like: my family, friends, home, bed, kitchen, bathroom, and simply put everything that makes my lifestyle convenient. I said yes to going on the World Race.

As I began creating this blog post, I started to ponder why this mission’s trip is called World Race. I understand why World is part of the title, as this mission’s trip involves traveling to 11 different countries and serving the lost, poor, and broken. But why Race? I am not actually “racing” anyone or competing for anything. Or am I?

I have yet to come to a conclusion but here are my thoughts:

– The word race originally implies a sense of “rapid forward movement.” Perhaps we are moving towards spreading the gospel to the masses.

– Another connotation of the word race is “individuals competing to be the first to reach an objective.” The objective being

  • Philippians 3:14, “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Where the goal and prize is to be eternally in the presence of our Creator.
  • 2 Timothy 4:7-8a, “I have fought the good fight, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness.”

– Race as in ethnicity: “a population within a species that is distinct in some way.” Perhaps we are working towards a “Christ-like” race/ethnicity.

Do you have any thoughts or suggestions? Although I have not come to a conclusion as to what World Race stands for, I have read and seen that World Race participants have been going to the nations and sharing the love of God. I know we have been given this commission:

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the son and of the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 28:19

And knowing that is enough. If you would like to join me as I pursue this commission, you certainly can! Here are some ways:
