Hello everyone!
My time in Argentina has passed, but I wanted to update you guys on what my last month looked like! Argentina was our first country in South America, so it was the start of the last continent before coming home. The local language is Spanish (of course), so I’ve actually been able to understand a little bit of what’s going on. The problem is that I haven’t studied Spanish in about 5 years, and I’m wishing I would have payed more attention in class! About 90% of Argentines claim to be Roman Catholic, but only 70% practice regularly. Our host told us that sometimes people will respond to their outreach with, “We don’t need your prayer, we have Mary,” and a large part of the country is practicing the religion without the relationship found in Christ.
This month my team and another team were in a small neighborhood just outside of Mendoza, and we partnered with Youth With a Mission. I was excited to work with YWAM because I have worked closely with them on previous mission trips growing up. They are a well established organization, and I loved seeing them work alongside AIM. The YWAM base had a mix of people from Argentina as well as people from the States. It was a great combination of learning Spanish and still being able to speak English with others.
We had a wide variety of ministry this month. Some of the things we did included leading school retreats, ropes course and recreation, teaching in schools, painting and cleaning a new building, fellowship with people in the desert, preaching in churches, and cleaning up neighborhood streets. We had about 8 hours of ministry each day, and we would spend the rest of the time hanging out with YWAM staff and students.
Cleaning a new building in town
Preaching in church
Teaching in school
Picking up trash
Everyone on my team was excited because we actually got to do ministry together this month. We worked through a lot and grew closer as a team. I’m excited to see how we progress and continue to grow! Our next location is just across the Andes mountains in Santiago, Chile. Please keep my team and I in your prayers as we continue along this journey!
