This month we’re working with an NGO called HOPEthiopia/Rwanda. It is based in Kigali, Rwanda. We are working on a few different projects. The one pictured below is at the HOPE transition home for men coming off Iwawa, a 12-month drug rehab facility on an island in Lake Kivu. After completing the program many of the men have no home to go back to. HOPE Rwanda opened this transition home in the community of Gangha, just outside the city, to help men get back on their feet. It is a 6 month program and they are already on their 4th group of men to live there for that duration. This group has only been living in the house for 1 month before we arrived and met them. They are provided with shelter, food and many become each others family.
This month we have the chance to get to know them, their stories and show love to them that many in the community don’t. There is a lot of stigma and judgement that follow these guys after they leave Iwawa. The HOPE home hopes to break those stigmas by getting them involved in community activities. We’re excited to be a part of this process.
A chance to sit with the guys and share stories along with Fantas.
Community house visits and prayer. We were asked to sit after being invited in. What you can’t see us sitting on is a make-shift 1×4 board bench. We thought we were going to break it but they assured us it’d hold. Miraculously it did.
Walking through the community with the guys making balloon animals for the kids.
Still working towards being kid friendly. Sometimes high-fives are all I can offer.
Mr. Chips – a Canadian run burger shack. We treated the guys after a late night of worship and prayer at a Worship event put on by our hosts friend.
