I want to tell you the story about how me and my Bible met.
I know, sounds exciting right?

Actually it’s a pretty cool story that takes place in Louisiana. I moved down there to start Grad school and had moved into an apartment complex with a few other girls from my program. I went to get the mail in the shared common area outside. There on the ground with a “free” sign was a handful of Christian things, including a Bible, brand new in the box and everything. Being a thrifty shopper I quickly glanced through what was there. I almost passed it up thinking someone else could benefit from the Bible more. I realized however that I never brought one from home! So being a good Christian I should own one, and here one was, for free! I grabbed it and in the bottom drawer of my night stand it made it’s home for a few months.
I was raised Christian but never made it a habit at this point in my life to read the Bible on a consistent basis. I had a copy on my iPad and I was content with using that at church. When I did start bringing it with me to church it felt weird. It was a chronological life application study bible. It was heavy. I already didn’t know the books of the Bible in order, and now it was all chronologically messed up which made it worse.
Little did I really realize that that was exactly the Bible for me. I LOVE the in-depth translation that brings the scripture alive for me and puts it in tangible application. I loved it so much I had to bring it on the race with me. Many of my teammates still look at me wide-eyed when they see me carrying it around, weighing just under 4 pounds, I couldn’t even fathom the thought of leaving it behind for 11 months. Wear and tear on the book, plus bite marks from my cat, has just added more of a personalized touch.

If you are reading this and don’t already own your own Bible I urge you to go to the bookstore and browse to find one that you like. One that will encourage you to read it daily and apply the living word of God. God knew what I needed so many years ago, to get the stone rolling, and draw me closer to Him. If He hadn’t I’d probably still be depending on others to fill me up and do the work for me.
