Two weeks ago I got the sweetest opportunity to be joined by my parents in Ecuador. I am thankful to again be joined on the field by my parents, 2 years ago they left home to see what I’m apart of on this completely different journey. The again said yes, and flew to a new continent. They joined me in worship, ministry, and seeing what it’s like to be leading young people in Ecuador. I am so thankful for the influence both of them have had on my life and for the things I’ve attained from them.

I couldn’t be more proud to be the daughter of Ernie & Sheryl Acosta—and here’s why.

Dear Mom,

Thank you for always carrying the most generous spirit—and that for my entire life it has been something I’ve seen you do, therefore carrying it into my own life. Thank you that with everything you have been given you have always been willing to share(and what a sweet reflection of the Father’s heart). Thank you for bringing a 25lb duffle bag halfway across the world with my favorite things and 1000 ziplock bags so I can share with those whose parents weren’t able to come. Thank you for always saying yes to serve others.

Thank you for your honesty. I wholeheartedly believe that I’ve attained the ability to speak honestly and truthfully from you. Thank you for always telling the truth and always giving me your perspective—even when we didn’t see things in the same light. But most of all, thank you for choosing to be on my side. Thank you for always fighting for me, sharing the wisdom you hold, and always being there.

Thank you for showing me what it looks like to be a woman who never gives up. You always met the needs I had growing up—and decided to return to school while I was in elementary school. You graduated nursing school and worked nights so you could still pick up Ed and I from school before we started driving. You’d often get 3 or 4 hours of sleep and still attend all my games and school events. You’ve always been my number one fan. Thank you for cheering for me and supporting me in what I choose to do. Thank you for your leadership—I love that I’ve seen you pursue your dreams and then quickly climbed your way to the top. The things you choose to do, you do them with excellence.

Thank you for your humility. You are one of the greatest people I know—and I’m so thankful to be your daughter. Thank you that you’re always desiring to pursue more—a deeper relationship with the Lord and more investment into the church and that you’ve brought me into that too.

I love you much,

Laura
