In early 2015 when contemplating going on the world race, the all Asia route was the last one I wanted to choose. Other world race routes offered traveling up to four different continents. After one of my close friends had a vision of me doing ministry in India, I decided to be obedient to the Lord was asking—even if it wasn’t necessarily what I wanted. I reluctantly signed up for the all Asia route, unsure of what the World Race would be for me.
Almost 2 years later, I could not be happier with the decision to go on the route I chose. I met a group of young people—who would soon become a tight knit tribe of people I spent a year of my life with. I never realized until I looked back that the Lord completely had me in His hand when it came to choosing a route, giving me a family that would meet my needs, and giving me friendships that would go well beyond a mission trip. I am so thankful for my people.
3 weeks ago I arrived back in Gainesville, Georgia—where it all started at training camp! This time I was on the other side of training camp. And instead of choosing my route, this time I was placed on one. The day before my soon to be racers would arrive I found out which group was mine! Out of the three available routes, I had mindfully thought of my preference. My first option was 5 countries I had never been to, my second was 3 countries I hadn’t been to with 2 I had been to, and my last was 5 Asian countries that I had gone to while on my race.
Let’s guess which one I got.
All Asia, Again.
Come January, I will spend the first 5 months of 2017 in:
India
Nepal
Vietnam
Cambodia
& Thailand
Sometimes I think the Lord just has a giant sense of humor. I had to remind myself of choosing my route, being obedient, and seeing the Lord’s faithfulness in my year overseas.
I know that God has placed me on this Route with such purpose. Last year I launched with 26 other racers. I began praying vision over my time as a squad leader that I would be challenged in new ways—whether that was location, squad size, or people I would lead. And here I am 2 months away from launching with a group of 58 racers. I look forward to the challenges I will face in the next 7 months, but know that the Lord completely had purpose in placing me where I am right now. I look forward to taking part in leading 58 young adults to 5 countries that already have my heart.
S squad is going to change some lives and do some mighty Kingdom work in 2017!
Countdown to launch is on!
