My experience of World Race Gap Year squad leading was scheduled to finish yesterday. At this very moment, we were supposed to be in the good ‘ol US of A… but we aren’t, and I’m not too mad about it.

We had plans for our travel day. We left our hostel early enough to get on some boats we had set up and move across the most beautiful lake in Guatemala. We met with our bus drivers, Francisco “Pancho” and Juan, to get picked up and taken back to Chimaltenango, the city where we served for the last few months. After a few hours, we planned to go to the airport and make our way to Houston in the early hours of the morning.

Needless to say, that didn’t happen.

We got a call early on in our bus ride with Pancho and Juan that informed us about a volcanic eruption and the closure of the airport, as well. Our plans were about to change. We have had enough travel experience, and we have made enough connections, that we knew that we could figure something out. The next hour and a half of the ride was spent calling, texting, and asking questions. Finally, we figured out the best plan for our squad. We also knew that we would not be flying today.

We honestly didn’t know a lot, but we knew that we were all safe and provided for.

That was two nights ago. I think I know when I’ll get home now, but nothing is sure. You never know what volcanos are going to do, but we know that it’s all going to be fine. This squad is a family that we’ve created and families get through things together. Some plan, some cook, some just wait out the time. It’s good. It’s really, really good.

With all of the uncertainty that can be in situations, and all of the changes in plans, it can push you to trust more in the Lord or go more in your own way. It can push you to want to give up control to God, or control even harder.

I am choosing to trust the Lord and give up my control.

That leads into my next journey. God has given me the opportunity to go back to a wonderful place, even before this journey ends. I have the opportunity to travel back to India to see if a long-term position is God’s plan for me.

I will be going for two weeks in July to see if I am a good fit for the position and if the Lord wants me to be in that position. In my previous experience, God has provided me with experiences that have led to jobs in weird ways – random calls from school principals, emails about jobs a week before school, and many more. This job interview, again, just looks a little different from the norm.

I will get to spend 10 days seeing people that I met, working with friends that live there, and seeing what life could look like there.

I need your help. I need your prayers for direction. I need your support as I come home again. I am also in need of some financial assistance in the way of fundraising. The cost for this trip is $1,704, and I know that the Lord is going to provide the money if He wants me to go. I am practicing trust and looking for as much confidence as I can muster. If you are able and want to invest in my journey, email me at [email protected] or simply check the link above to support monetarily. Anyway, I would love to talk and get coffee!

Most importantly, thank you for reading and supporting me through every step of both of my World Race adventures so far. Thank you for investing in me and seeing value in the work that the Lord has led me to.
