Living on the Race doesn’t have to look like the stereotype of “international missions work.” Yes. It involves some of the things that you see all over Instagram and Facebook – playing with kids and teaching people about Jesus… but it is SO much more.
This is what our Cambodian ministry looks like.
Helping shop at the market instead of a grocery store.

Carrying 5-gallon buckets of water to our room.

Painting walls.

Trying to squeeze a little alone time into the schedule.

Teaching English. (Loren)
Eating weird food while Khmer students watch – thats a maggot, by the way.

Finally finding some Mexican food after 2 weeks in Cambodia.

Riding for an hour to a village… in the back of a truck. (Loren and Sarah and our Khmer friend).
Being far from the ones you love. (My niece, Abby, and I!)
Experiencing a Cambodian wedding.

Being with kids, even if they’re asleep. (Hilary)

Prayer. Lots of prayer. (Team Avanti)

I never realized how involved life is here (and everywhere.) It is an amazing thing to be able to do life with people all over the place. The students we’ve met, the places we’ve lived, and the experiences I’ve had have surprised me so much. I hope that I continue to have different experiences that help bring me closer to the people in every place. Carrying water showed the students that we were strong! Going to the the market gave me time to get to know the people cooking for the school (the interns and some others). Prayer helps us to understand what God is doing and where we’re going.
It’s amazing, even when it’s ridiculous.
PS, now we’re in Vietnam, a closed country, and we would love prayer for our stay here. It is AMAZING so far, but prayer would be wonderful!
