For weeks now I have struggled to answer one of the most common questions I have been asked since being accepted.
WHY HAVE YOU CHOSEN THE FUSION ROUTE FOR THE WORLD RACE?
At first I would say, “It’s just an amazing opportunity to work with people that aren’t all from America.” The more I thought about that, the dumber I felt for saying it. The whole reason for me going is to work with people from different countries. Then I would say, “Because I feel called to missions full time and this would give me the chance to live in community with people from different places.” Although this is true, it’s still not the wording and expression of the way I felt that I was looking for or trying to get across through my feelings. I know… It’s a little confusing for me too.
While I was at work one day, recently, I got a text from my little sister with a link to a video she wanted me to watch. It was the music video to the song “How Great is our God” by Chris Tomlin. But this wasn’t just the original version which is amazing already… No. This was the World Edition. Every time I hear this version it send chills throughout my entire body. I’m not sure if you are familiar with this version, but this particular one represents a total of 9 different languages throughout the duration of the song. During the song they sing in Hindi, Indonesian, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, Zulu, Afrikaans, Mandarin and English.
I had heard this version of the song a million times, but until the day my sister sent me the link, I had never seen the video. When I finally did, my chills multiplied by 100! While I was watching as each of these artists came together to share such a powerful message, it hit me! I know exactly why I feel led to the Fusion route. God calls us to serve one another in love and for His glory. Just like Chris Tomlin had the opportunity to collaborate with many artists from different backgrounds to bring the message that our God is great, I will have the same opportunity to serve side-by-side with others who come from different backgrounds and cultures to bring the message to different nations about how great our God is! Although we are all different, we all serve the same amazing God and are coming together to work and serve as ONE body of Christ!
This is the reason Fusion is for me. Having the opportunity to serve people of many different cultures and religions is going to be amazing, BUT serving those people with others who are also from different background and cultures will be so unique and powerful in it’s own right.
