When the Lord calls us, He asks us to take a leap of faith. To jump off a mountain, into uncharted waters and just trust him.
If you follow my blog, you know trust is something the Lord and I have been working on and it’s gotten better! But this month, I was given a literal example of what not trusting the Lord looks like.
On our adventure day, our host took us to hike to a waterfall and swim. We got to go with the kids from Grace House (the orphanage inside of the Long Neck Karen village) and we had great team bonding. Through out the day, some of the kids were jumping off a cliff and being the thrill seeker that I am, I wanted to try. After the kids left, four of us swam across the water to the cliff they had been jumping off of. I was confident until I climbed up there and looked down and in that moment, I panicked. But I decided to jump anyway, I stood up, looked over the edge, and then my shoe slipped. I fell and almost hit my head on the side of the cliff and I managed to grab onto my teammate, Ashleigh. I started to pull her down with me but I found a foot hold and was able to gain my balance so I could sit. Both of us were pretty freaked out, and as I caught my breath, I just about started crying.
Later that day, the Lord reminded me of a vision my squad mentor, Megan, had in Vietnam. I was standing on a cliff about to jump and trust the Lord, for one second I faltered and doubted Him, but then I jump. I fall and trust the Lord to catch me. I realized that life is a lot like jumping off a cliff: trusting the Father means trusting him in every situation. You have to step off and fall, He will catch you. But the second you stop trusting Him or you slip, your life goes wayward, you lose control. When you chose to trust him again, is when He gives you something to hold onto and a foot hold.
The Lord asks us to take leaps of faith for him, to jump without faltering. It’s scary, but you will safely fall into His arms every time you obey and take the jump.
