Sometimes while on the race you feel empty and unfulfilled, even if it is just week one. For some reason I just had this image of diving in head first straight into ministry, but that has definitely not been the case.

We arrived to Guatemala in the middle of the week, which is just generally an awkward time for anything to start. Then came Guatemala’s independence day, where school is out for three days.

It just seemed like all we had was time and all we were doing was sitting in coffee shops and walking in the square. Yes thats great seeing and living the culture, but there was just this feeling of “what else”.

So as a team we decided to do an ATl or Ask the Lord. Where you spend lots of time praying and seeing where the Lord takes you. We split into groups of three, three in the community where we are living and three walking into town.

Ashlyn, Kelly, and I started out walking into town, and came to the community hand washing facility. I had such high hopes and was expecting this great outcome, and nothing. I had no clue what to do or who to talk to. All we ended up doing was just sitting there.

So we decided to walk down to what we thought was the local public soccer field. Well turns out the soccer field was connected to a school, and because of independence day the school was closed and there was no one in sight. So again nothing.

We ended up just walking back to the house and waiting for the other three. But little did we know the Lord completely answered them and put an amazing family in their path. They got to teach the kids english, learn to make tortillas, and help the father pull weeds in the corn fields.

We ended up getting together and got to meet the family. That meant many games of soccer, cat and mouse, duck duck goose, and much more. These kids are absolutely amazing and I am so excited to go back and keep building relationships with them. At the end of the day my heart was so full and filled with complete joy.

It’s kind of funny how we walked all around the town and got nowhere, but instead ended up right back in our own community establishing relationships. It just teaches that you don’t always have to go far to reach out to people. It could be two or three streets over or even your next-door neighbor.

What a wonderful lesson learned today. God wont always show up when you want him to, but in the end he provides and always at the right time.
