A few days ago I listened to a sermon talking about the hidden cost of a high calling…you know what I’m talking about?
Like when you hear about this great deal on the tv for a product and you call in and find out, yes you can get the product at the price but there are several additional costs that will have to be added on. That’s a hidden cost.
Most things in life come with a hidden cost.
Here are some life things I can think of (off the top of my head) that come with a hidden cost: college, career, a spouse, children
Ok we all know those are some things that come with a hidden cost, you don’t necessarily know upfront what those things may come with or bring with them, but there is always going to be a hidden cost.
I want to pose a question to you:
Do you actually know what you’re asking for when you ask for things?
Do you know the hidden cost of what you’re asking for?
Recently I have had to consider hidden costs of the things I’m asking for, so I am in the place of trying to understand concept vs. commitment.
Do I just like the idea of this because it’s a good concept? Or do I actually like it because I am committed to the idea?
Now for me, I’m not talking about college, or a “job”, or a spouse, or children. I’ve done college, I’m not worried about the “job” I take for the time being at home, and I’m not getting married or planning for kids right now.
For me, I’m talking about the hidden cost of things God is calling me to. Because it would be easy to commit to the concept of something but not actually understand it…
It’s a whole other thing to understand the concept but be afraid of committing to it.
There are many hidden costs to a missions calling. But because it’s the calling God has placed on my heart, I choose to commit to it.
I chose it when I came on The World Race and I kind of thought that would be the end of it, that I was only choosing this calling for this year, but now, this year is almost over, and I find myself still choosing it.
I choose it even though I know it comes with a hidden cost. I choose it because I know I find my life in the Lord.
“And whoever does not take his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.”
Matthew 10:38-39
If the Lord gives you a high calling, follow it; even though there will be hidden costs, it’s worth it.
