So the other day I went for a walk with a close friend/spiritual mom. We had a great time catching up on what God has been doing in us and teaching us. I started telling her about how God has changed me this summer in how I live each day. I used to focus so much on the big exciting things in the future, that I would forget that the most important time in my life is the present. The right now. I had a clicking moment at the end of June where I realized that I can enjoy every day. Each day I live is the most important day of my life because it is the present. We can’t change the past, but we can affect the future by how we live NOW. Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:34, “Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own”. So I have begun to learn to live each day with excitement and joy for the life God has for me right NOW. I try not to get caught up dwelling my thoughts on the big things in my future such as the World Race and other adventures God will take me on.
So after I told this to my friend, she told me about a revelation she had in that same area. Hers went like this. She was out walking her dog in the morning and her dog is always super excited about everything. Super excited for walks, super excited when it gets food, super excited when people come over, etc. So she imagined the dog saying, “THIS IS THE BEST DAY EVER!!!” It was as if every day to the dog was the “best day ever”. It found enjoyment in the little things in life. We often find enjoyment in the big things in life and over look the little things throughout our day.
Every day of our lives can be the “BEST DAY EVER” if we allow it to be. I believe the only way we can truly live life like this is if we live life in a relationship with Jesus. If everyday we are spending time with Him as a friend and Father, life is so enjoyable. Jesus is not like humans. He won’t accidentally hurt us, He cannot lie to us, He is 100% good. So when we spend time with Him, our lives will naturally get better. Everyone has those friends we can go to if we are feeling down and need comfort. Jesus is the best friend for that. He is super good at listening and offers the best advise. With Jesus in our lives, we can have the “BEST DAY EVER” everyday. When trials come, we CAN rejoice in them because we know Jesus is right there to help us. We can find joy in dying to ourselves everyday, because we have a Savior who went through worse and is right beside us to comfort us.
So now when people ask me if I am excited for the World Race in January, I tell them I am, but I am also excited for today and the next day and the next. God has great things to give us every single day. He loves us so much and wants us to enjoy life. He allows hard times and trouble to come, but this doesn’t mean we are not supposed to enjoy those “crappy” days. When the storm is raging in the physical all around us, Jesus is able to calm the storm within us. He is God. So whatever situation we may be in, whether at work, in ministry, unemployed, school, traveling or where ever God has us, we can know that God is good and each day is made by Him.
This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. -Psalm 118:24
So my first deadline for the World Race is September 26 and I need to have $3500 in my World Race account by then.
