Debrief is a really special time that doesn’t look like any other time in the race. We move cities for a few days, play, rest, teach and recharge. Or at least the squad does – squad leaders are running all the fun, teaching and helping people process through their experience. It was actually the longest few days of this experience so far.
Somedays you’re blessed and highly favored and sleep in a little bit. Then first things first, go to the best coffee shop in Baños with your bestie.
Then we came back to the hostel for breakfast and teaching. It was a great morning of conviction, and prayer. And in true World Race form one of our team leaders got a new tattoo the night before.
Part of the teaching was an open door to “go do the dang thing”. So teams went out to be lead by God in whatever that looked like – praying for people, handing out flowers, worshipping in the park etc.
Leadership grabbed ice cream and wrote encouraging notes for ice cream shop employees. Then Kate got the blankets she’s promised to people at home, and on the way we met a friend who was blind.
The rest of the day was filled with one on one conversations with racers, pizza, notes of encouragement, a squad pic and ice cream…again, not ashamed of it.
Debriefs aren’t normal days on the World Race. Soon after this I filled out tons of reports, taught on hard things, gave a lot of feedback and sat next to people going through hard things. But somedays include lots of ice cream, laughter and walking around new streets.
