I’m getting a lot of the same questions (for good reason), so I thought I’d answer them all at once.
1. Wait, what about Maybe?
Indeed, I have not forgotten that I have a very cute dog. It was actually the biggest thing that kept me up at night, because I didn’t want to shove her onto someone. She’s got a lot of personality and is not a low-key dog. On the scale of viewing dogs from 0 to Fur Children, I approach Maybe at a 6. At the end of the day, she’s a dog, not a human, but she’s been an incredibly faithful friend in the last 2 years, and I am responsible for her.
One of my coaches always encouraged me to get my prayers down to one sentence, and here it was, “Lord, please take care of this.”
One particular night a few weeks ago when three people talked or texted me in two hours about what I was doing with Maybe, another friend messaged me and all but asked to have Maybe at her and her husband’s home (with their golden and golden doodle). ANSWERED PRAYER PEOPLE. So at the end of August Maybe is moving to Kentucky for 9 months and getting some giant doggo pals. I couldn’t be more thankful to Hannah and Justin for taking her.
2. You’re fundraising, right?
Yes, I am. Gap Year Squad Leaders are responsible for fundraising $3,800 to cover all expenses for the 9 months. (This is quite a small amount when you consider the length of time and travel.)
I have had the extreme blessing of support from friends and family before for my own World Race and work as a video producer at Adventures in Missions. I’m excited to continue to with that team of support. Through the summer I will be offering discounted photo sessions to fundraise, but mostly I will reach out to specific friends.
If you’d like to support me, there is an active donate button on this blog, and the status bar above is accurate. THANK YOU.
3. What are you doing after you squad lead?
There are a coupel options on my plate right now, but for the most part, I’m waiting to see how I grow and change over the 9 months before saying anything definite. I do not have an open job at Adventure in Missions to return to. However, I will likely come back to Gainesville because it is my home – my parents live in northern Virginia, where I have never lived, it’s been 5 years (whoa) since I lived in Kentucky and 10 years (WHOA) since I lived in Minnesota.
4. Where are you going exactly?
Right now I am assigned to Gap Year, route 6 which will go to Ecuador, Peru, Guatemala and Cambodia.
