I figured this would be an appropriate post seeing as how Valentines Day was yesterday. Every year I hear and read the same things, girls and guys either sharing with the world how much they love each other or girls and guys expressing their frustration with the day as it draws attention to their “singleness.”

Personally, I’ve never found Valentines Day to be that big of a deal either way, but I can certainly see where people are coming from.

Whenever I hear people’s frustration about the fact that they are single I just want to make sure they realize one thing. Do you know you aren’t single!? You are the bride of Christ! It doesn’t matter if you’re male or female, you are already in an intimate relationship with your Creator, you just have to pursue it.

We constantly search for relationships because every human heart thirsts to be loved. We approach one another with hungry hearts hoping that the other will feed our cravings. Without love we become desperate for something to fill the void in our hearts. So naturally, a relationship with emotional highs and an initial sweet taste seems like the perfect solution right?

Well no. No matter how wonderful a dating relationship feels, the romantic bliss will eventually wear off. Why? Because our love for one another is performance based. And the problem with performance based love is that it requires perfect people. As we all know people aren’t perfect. We are fallen and we are absorbed in our sinful nature. No one can forgive, accept, and be patient ALL the time. So the relationship may taste good initially, but the thrill disappears as our selfish motives demand performance… leaving a bitter emptiness in its place.

We need to understand that what our hearts really truly desires is a pure, passionate, unconditional love. And the only source for that pure, passionate, unconditional love is Jesus Christ. He is the only one who loves us regardless of how we act.

By dying on the cross for our sins, He proved that He is deeply and passionately in love with us… and that He WANTS a relationship with us. We are His bride! I pray daily that everyone learns this because this is enough to completely change your take on relationships and on life in general.

Only after we understand how much we are already loved by God can we truly love another. And that love that we receive from God is intended to be expressed to someone else when the time is right.

A perfect love waits to delights you. You just have to decide to pursue it.

It’s your choice.
