Yesterday we got here to Cambodia (stay tuned for a Cambodia blog coming soon) so I figured I should probably both start and finish telling you about Thailand.
To sum it up, Thailand was fantastic.
We did various things like preaching in a boys delinquent home and visiting an all women’s prison. Those were amazing experiences because we got to witness 35 women accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. However, our ministry for the month was teaching English as a second language. Each morning we taught at a different local primary school. We would rotate from class to class with our kids ranging in age all the way from kindergarten to high school. It really was quite an experience. I absolutely loved getting to meet hundreds of kids around the Chanthaburi providence. We got to meet kids out in remote villages and kids in big towns. It was quite a spectrum, and I loved it. Each morning we would be greeted by students standing at their desks saying, “Good Morning Teacher” and “I’m fine, thank you. And you?” in complete unison as I entered and greeted each class. It melted my heart as much on the last day as it did on the first.
After we taught our morning classes, the schools would feed us lunch before we piled into the back of Pastor’s truck to head home. Upon arriving back at the church where we were living, we would almost immediately start planning/prepping for the afternoon english class. For 6 days of the week, we hosted a free english class for the neighborhood in the evening. My teammate Jordan and I taught the children’s class. We had about 15-18 kids each day with ages ranging from 5-13. I really loved this because, unlike the primary schools where we only taught the extreme basics, we were able to watch these children really grow in their skills. We also got to build really great relationships with the children and adult students alike.
Overall, Thailand was an incredibly busy month of ministry, but we were loved well by everyone we encountered and were able to pour so much into them and truly equip them with needed life skills. Our last night of English class, we threw a thank you party for our students and were able to share our testimonies with them of Jesus. It was great!
