After fundraising for two years now I’ve learned some things on how to go about it. From what exactly to share with people to what time people are on Facebook to creative fundraisers that entice donors. I’ve learned that in times of deadlines where I’m in more need of money people come through in the last minute. Pictures help more than videos and blogs need to be 500 words or less.
But the biggest thing I’ve learned is that I have no control over this.
I can say the most inspirational things about what I’m doing. I can give you some pretty amazing souvenirs from around the world to get you to donate. I can even make the most amazing desserts possible for you. But I don’t control whether you’re going to donate or not. You might think that you have the control. I need money and you’re there with extra cash that you can decide whether you donate or not donate. In the physical reality it looks like you are the deciding factor.
Whether you believe it or not, the Lord controls all of this.
I’m not saying that we have no free will. We do. God loves us and He wants us to decide on our own whether you love Him back or not. You choose to listen when He asks you to move to another city. You choose to listen when He asks you to quit your job when you have no savings. You choose to have faith that He knows what’s best for you. And those who have donated to my missions trip have chosen to have faith that this money is going to good use.
Now of course there are also those times when He tells us to not to do something. Don’t move to this city. Don’t quit your job even when you have lots of money saved. Don’t donate to this missions trip because I want you partnered somewhere else.
But here, I tell you what I’m doing and He asks you to donate or not.
I always want to donate so much to other World Racer’s. And the Lord frequently asks me to donate what I can. Most times I am on such a tight budget that I can only donate $3. This amount is the typical biggest amount that you can donate when you are on a strict budget. Then there’s $300. An amount that you don’t have but you trust that the Lord can provide. One time $300 magically showed up in my bank account and I knew that this was for a racer. I was really afraid at the same time because I needed that money for my own World Race account. LITERALLY, the minute I donated that money, someone donated $350 to my account. We can call that a coincidence or we can believe in something greater.
So now I am telling you what’s next for me.
I’m attending the Center for Global Action (CGA) on September in Gainesville, Georgia. I need $10,950 to attend the school for a year where I put community, discipleship, and apprenticeship together to reach my calling. This is put simply because I don’t want to overindulge you with information that you might not want to hear. Just know that I have never been so sure to do something. I have never taken a bigger step of faith (yes, even more than the World Race). God will provide the money.
And God put these two numbers in my mind whenever fundraising comes up. It’s a crazy thing but I believe that this is how I’m going to CGA. Now it’s time to decide.
