Well I have less than a hundred days left on the Race, crazy and hard to believe that this amazing journey is drawing to a close. Now as the time draws closer and closer to which my feet land on American soil once again, the question that comes is what do I do next? One thing that I’ve learned over these last 9 months is that when I don’t know what to do to move my dreams down the road I need to pray and take a step forward in any direction. Well maybe not any direction let me reword that…how about in any direction that has God’s fingerprints on them.
But this question of what’s your next step, can be asked at any point in time and while I can’t be certain because for everyone I know that its different for each of us. But I bet it involves choosing something that already lights you up. Something you already think is beautiful or lasting and meaningful. Pick something you aren’t just obligated to do; instead pick something you feel like you were made to do and then do lots of that! You weren’t just an incredible idea that God never got around to making. The next step happened for the world when God dropped you on the planet. You’re here and I’m here. God decided to have us intersect history, not at just any time, but at this time!
He made us to be good at a few things and bad at a couple others. He made us to love some things and not like others. Most of all, he made us to dream. We were meant to dream a lot. We’re part of God’s much bigger plan for the whole world. Just like God’s Son arrived here so did you. And after Jesus arrived, God whispered to all of humanity “It’s time to move…” Heaven’s been leaning over the rails in the same way ever since you got here, waiting to see what you’ll do with your life.
It’s time to go off roading rather than staying on the map. To not go somewhere safe or end up somewhere typical. Things happen when we get off the map! Instead of leaking the same old things lets start leaking what we love! Let’s leak Jesus and pretty soon we will have swallowed up so many others because of the lake we have created; no because of the ocean of love we have made.
So, the next time you want to plan something, say no to planning it and let Jesus take the wheel. Because the problem with plans is that when they don’t end up working we try forcing it to work and then end up with a small result. But when we swap that for a big idea that isn’t planned or charted we get everything that everyone brings to the table and its pretty amazing. Because when we let love guide our way, when we let God guide our way His plans shake things up and mountains are moved!
“Love does whatever it takes to multiply itself and somehow along the way everyone becomes a part of it. You know why? Because that’s what love does!” (Bob Goff).
As I finish out this journey and seek the next adventure that God has before me, you bet that I’ll let his love-light guide my way. I’m going to jump off the road and into the Ocean and let the tide of God’s love take me away into the deep wide spaces of the adventures He has before me. Won’t you join me?
