Malaysia! We made it in one piece, and it has been nothing short of a hilarious ride ever since we set foot into this glorious country!
Our squad spent the first 5 days in some much needed debrief time. We hung out, we laughed, we played games, we slept in a giant dorm with 20 beds- sleepover! We ate, a lot. We explored malls, the city railways, the Batu caves. We sang Mariah Carey christmas songs in the mall under the biggest christmas tree I’ve ever seen! (Who knew Christmas in Malaysia is actually a HUGE deal?) And we went to see Frozen, Thor and Catching Fire… twice. All in all it was a great time of rest with our whole squad. My team got Erika back and we had some awesome heart resting time with our coaches and squad leaders. We were able to take a break long enough to look up and see the ways the Lord is moving and changing us along our journey. And there is so much more to be done!
We are at our ministry site in northern Malaysia, where my team is partnered with team Fearless Unity staying with an incredible pastor and his family. This month we will work alomgside their kindergarten ministry, some teaching and doing kid club programs and simple odd jobs along the way. We also have the opportunity to live in a real house and make it ours, just in time for Christmas!
Our tiny town has a small population of about 3000. Our town is completely Muslim. We don’t have A/C or a stove or internet and have to walk about 20 minutes to get to anything. But we have each other.
God is going to show us (and has already) how much He loves us. In the midst of so many prayer calls and covered heads, we are feeling the Lord’s presence more close than ever. We get to rest, without distractions because we have nothing in our home except friends. We can seek Him openly without fear, but we cannot talk about Him. Yet He still is the one who graces our thoughts and lips. We will pray. We will worship. We will serve those around us with a love they cannot deny is the love of Jesus.
Most importantly, this month we will learn to love each other and intentionally pursue community while learning all the more to seek the heart of Christ. This will be a precious month of Christmas, spared the distractions of busyness and life in order to have a month where the most important things are the only things we have- a little bit of friendship, a tiny Christmas tree and a whole lot of Jesus.
Though I can’t talk much this month, I will be thinking and praying for you always. I pray the lord blesses you with as much sweet time to spend with Him as He is blessing me. Its all about Him anyways! 🙂 Much love!
