This is Emmi. We call her Pi Emmi (it’s a sign of respect). She started a ministry in Chiang Mai, Thailand called Lighthouse in Action. She is a rockstar.

Pi Emmi has a love for Jesus like I’ve never seen, and a passion for God’s people that cannot be easily matched.

Pi Emmi started Lighthouse in Action as a ministry to reach into the lives of her own Thai people and show them the love of Jesus. In the bars. In the villages. In the slums. With the monks. And in her own cafe.

These are things Emmi says:

Learn to fall more in love with God every day. Then ask Him for “the one” He has for you in Thailand, that you might learn to love His people too.

Love is an action.

Remember, we’re not going out getting to know people with the simple motive of “rescuing” them, but we are Holy Spirit led farmers learning to love.

We’re planting, watering and harvesting the work God is already doing.

You may be the one who plants, the one who waters, or the one who harvests… but God is the only one who can make the seed grow.

Learn to pray and intercede for one another, covering each other in ministry as we go out to meet with people. Fight for one another and fight for the hearts of people to be softened. You may never know what God is doing, but you have the chance to be a part of something great if you join in prayer.

Pi Emmi has seen so many things in her lifetime and watched people become drastically transformed by the gospel. In Thailand, a predominately Buddhist culture, most people have never heard of the gospel and their exposure to western culture is not of the highest standards.

“To be Thai is to be Buddhist”

It is difficult to reach a people so rooted in their religious identity, yet their hearts yearn for something more- the chance that God actually loves them and knows them so intimately.

People are bound in slavery. Slaves to Buddhism and monk-life. Slaves to poverty and education. Slaves to lack of opportunity. And literal slaves to human trafficking. Yet this place was made for FREEDOM.

While 3 of our squad teams are staying at Lighthouse in Action this month, we will have the opportunity to join in the fight Pi Emmi has been waging in this city. The three ministries under LIA are Love Acts (bar ministry), Monk Chats and Slum ministry & working the Zion Cafe (as well as a possible trip to the rice field village for a few days).

My team, Peculiar Treasures, has been led to work with Love Acts, reaching out to the prostitutes, ladyboys, children and vacationers in the bars. Our home is about a block away from the Red Light district here, and the atmosphere changes drastically from day to night. The gospel is more than preaching words, it’s about relationship. Our goal is to love these people like only Jesus can.

No agenda.

No comparison.

No condemnation.

Just the pure love of Jesus Christ for His beloved people.

By the way, Thailand translated in the Thai language means, “The Land of of the FREE

Unbelievable.

As I mentioned, three teams from our squad are here in Chiang Mai this month. Telios is working in the Zion cafe ministering to the staff and customers. Throne Unveiled is working in the slums and building relationships with the monks. My team, Peculiar Treasures is focusing on the bars & sex trafficking. Each of our teams will have a chance to work with the others, but will keep focus on one in particular.

This month, our team schedule will be to wake up every morning and prayer walk the bar street for an hour. We will then help around the house with upkeep projects until after lunch. The six of us ladies will then head back to prayer walk around the bars for their afternoon set ups, getting to know people and showing them we’re in it for more than the night life. Building relationships is key for us. Then after dinner, we will spend an hour with all teams praying over the ministry to be done at night. Our team will split- three going out to the bars after dark while 3 stay back to prayerfully intercede over what The Lord is doing. It’s going to be a tough month, probably building lots of relationships without being able to really share our faith- but showing them the deep and unconditional love of Jesus is what is most important. We will also learn a lot about the power of prayer- praying for hours each day. This is a stretch for many of us, as our Christian lifestyles haven’t challenged us to be in focused prayer so much in one day- but the Lord is already showing us His faithfulness when we take time to tune into what He has planned. If you feel led, join us in prayer over all the ministries and teams working this month. It’s gonna be tough- but God is good.
