I used to think God was like the wind, but now I see Him more like clouds.

Wind– You can feel it but you can’t see it.

Clouds– You can see it but you can’t feel like.

There’s no better feeling than a refreshing breeze on a hot, sweltering day. In those moments, I close my eyes, embrace the sensation, and pray a little, “That You JESUS” for the wind. I often find myself smiling when the wind blows, no matter how slight or intense because it reminds me of God and how I can’t necessarily see Him but I can feel Him and believe He’s alive and real just as much as the wind.

Now, with clouds. Of course we’d all like to wish clouds felt like the Snuggle bear falling into a basket of clean towels, but it’s simply not true. Clouds aren’t tangible in any way shape or form to my knowledge. But they’re nonetheless unique and are seen in a variety of forms: Stratus, cumulous, cumulonimbus, and cirrus.

I personally love the big, fluffy, cumulous clouds. And in my opinion, you’re never too old to lay on your back and see what kind of interesting shapes and characters you can make out from their passing forms. They’re interesting, versatile, and a beautiful part of nature.

Lately, I’ve been starting to notice God in the clouds rather than wind because I’ve been feeling like the deer lately. You know, the one David talks about in Psalm 42: “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul thirsts for you O God.”

I realized that, heck, I haven’t really felt God in a while. But faith isn’t about feelings. And neither is love, if you know how to love right. Not feeling God or the Holy Spirit in a while can be difficult and sad. This happens to everyone at some point in their relationship with God so I know I’m not alone nor do I want to be ashamed of my “dry spell”, acting like I’m all good and that I never struggle.

So as I felt the wind blow my hair in front of my face the other day, I got a little sad thinking, “God I know you’re there. I know You’re alive. And though I can’t feel you right now, I still see you everywhere!” It was then that I looked up to the sky and saw the clouds and was reminded that even when I can’t feel Him, He is oh so there because I can see Him in literally everything!!!

In people, flowers, church, nature, music, theatre, friends, and the ocean. He is Creator of all and in all. So whether I feel Him, see him, neither, or both, I still know that He is real. He is Alive. I literally can’t deny it in any way. He is good to me.

“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities– his eternal power and divine nature– have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.”
