Missionary In America

Being a Missionary in America is a lot harder than overseas to say the least. Overseas we didn’t have the distraction of personal car, the hustle and bustle of everyday life, media and communication at our fingertips, and the comforts and familiarity of “home”. Overseas you were there for a purpose and here in the states you are too but since its familiar you don’t feel like it’s as important because they speak English and come from a similar background. Here in America there is no language barrier; no relying on God to help you get to the grocery store and ask the lady or man how much for this or is this where I am suppose to get off the bus, there isn’t a consistent dependence on God for your unfamiliar surroundings.  You somehow feel that since you are in America and everything is familiar you don’t do as much as when you were overseas.

The Lord has brought me out of a rough season. This last semester was full of doubt, confusion, frustration, questioning, unbelief, etc. of what I am really doing here. The enemy had a field day with trying to convince me that being a Missionary in America isn’t a real thing. “You can’t ask for financial support in America; You needed to just quit this program and get a real job; What you are doing here is pointless it’s too big for you; People only support missionaries overseas.”  While many of these lies felt true I knew they were lies.

When I try to explain to people what I am doing here at The Center for Global Action in Atlanta, GA it’s hard to explain. I can tell you I am taking leadership classes, online business classes, worked with World Water Relief (which is a non-profit organization that brings clean water to the DR and Haiti), I live in a community with other CGAers that are learning how to transition back into the American culture, as well as doing missions work like cleaning up the trash in the community, loving and playing with kids and spending time with the locals, working with Out of Darkness (which is a rescue organization for sex-trafficking and prostitution victims) but to actually understand what I am doing here is a whole other story. American Missions just looks different than overseas Missions. I am still depending on the Lord for every single thing I just more difficult to see because my surrounding are familiar now.

This last semester had a lot of kinks in it. We had a lot of ups and downs with communication, hardships trying to understanding how to be in a program that is not fully developed and every step we took it was onto a blank page, living in America but still having an overseas mindset, and how to do World Race community and feedback in an American setting. Last semester was rough however; I believe that it has taught me the most in my leadership, communication, and employment skills than anything I could’ve learned through books, school, or lectures.

Coming in to this new semester I wanted to start with a new perspective! I know that this vision to combine the supernatural healing world with the medical world is what God wants. It’s His heart to heal emotional, spiritually, physically, and mentally. I am still committed to this program and to what God has for me being a Missionary here in America. This next semester my internship is with the Sozo Ministry here at Bethel Atlanta. I have the privilege to learn from them new ways that the Lord wants to uses His Supernatural Healing Hands through their ministry. I will also be continuing to work with other outreach programs here in at Atlanta and reaching out to develop more community since there is only two of us in the program now.

I am excited for this next semester and what God has for me. I still believe that my time is not over yet here at the CGA and I need your help to complete the 12 month program that I have committed to. I am asking for your financial support. I need $5,000 to complete my program in December. Please partner with me and the opportunity to develop the vision the Lord has given me for combining these two worlds. (Please check out my blog “BluePrint” if you aren’t familiar with it. It’s amazing!) You will also be partnering with me to support and be active in Ministries like: World Water Relief, Out of Darkness, Adopt-A-Block, Sozo, Refugee Community Outreach, etc. The Lord has big plans for the next 6 months for me here at The Center for Global Action and if you would like to support me or these organizations here are three ways to do it:
