Wow. All I can say is, wow.
It’s hard to write the end of this story when it’s really just the beginning of our journey. A journey that had so many twists, turns and lessons that it seems impossible to write about each and every one of them.
An adventure that took us from Tampa to Amsterdam to Istanbul.
From Istanbul through Greece and into Macedonia.
A trip that landed us in Albania for a month, and then Bulgaria.
And a journey that took us out of Bulgaria and back to America where we waited.
It was in all of that waiting that we saw that this entire journey had God's fingerprints all over it.
And through this journey, God taught us one really big thing that we tend to forget. I guess you could call it Lesson #3. (View lesson #1 & lesson #2)
God is never done teaching us things.
Simple enough, right?
As you can imagine, we were a little tired after everything we had been through so God decided to bring us into the wilderness to have some quality time with him.
We didn’t really know what we were getting ourselves into until the night before we left.
“Wear comfortable shoes and pack light as we will be hiking between 8 and 11 miles the first day.”
Ouch. I felt the blisters already.
So, God was taking us into the wilderness with a bunch of people we didn’t know for what?
We were about to find out.
On the first morning of the trip, someone came over to our campsite and asked me why I didn’t trust God.
Dang.
Are you kidding me, man? Haven’t you read Unforgettable Journey pt. 1 and pt. 2? Haven’t you seen what we have been through the past month? I trust God!
So, I sat in the woods for the next 3 days asking God why I didn’t trust him. It didn’t make much sense at the time but after asking and asking a funny thing happened.
He answered.
He said, “Surrender your trust to Me.”
Those are some pretty intense words. The Father, my Heavenly Father, wanted me to surrender the trust I had built in myself to Him.
He wanted me to give Him everything in order to be able to walk into everything He had planned for me. And those things PALED in comparison to what I can get by trusting myself.
It is that “loss of control” over our own destiny that enables us to finally walk into what God had planned for us all along.
That brought us to Lesson #4.
God’s destiny for me is better than my destiny for me. For the Lord said, “My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways, my ways.” (Isaiah 55:8)
Which I guess brings us to today. Right here.
I am sitting in Antigua, Guatemala looking out our window at one of the several volcano’s that surround this beautiful city; A city that God has called Kimberly and I to for the time being.
We may not wake up knowing what each day holds or what each evening is going to look like. But we do wake up knowing that our Heavenly Father has a plan for us. And that plan is going to be wild, it’s going to be great and it’s going to be full of Him.
Do I understand it? No.
Do I trust it is the Lord who brought us here? Absolutely.
Right now, I challenge you to ask God what His plan for you is.
I can promise you that once He answers your question, you have the opportunity to walk into something amazing. For nothing you create can compare to what God will create in you if you allow Him.
Fheww. So that is the end of this Unforgettable Journey. But it's really just the beginning of an Unforgettable Life.
As you can imagine, God taught us so many more lessons than we could ever put in a few blog posts. The lessons that I highlighted might not have even been the biggest lessons we learned, but rather a good stopping point at times.
