I’ve been away from home for a very long time
So I thought for your birthday I’d write you a rhyme
Now, Mom, I’m not a professional writer or even a poet
But since I was little I have tried, you would know it

You watched my Pocahontas dances and listened to my Celine Dion songs
You’ve been so loving, supportive, and encouraging all along
You’ve followed my journey while on the world race
And have had your own adventures all over the place

It’s been so cool to see you grow in your faith by your walk
And I’ve treasured every moment that we could email or talk
Mom, your commitment to saving lives with the Red Cross blows my mind
I’ve often been caught bragging on you, saying, “My mom’s one of a kind.”

You’ve brought me up so well and taught me about Jesus
We’ve been through a lot, through so many seasons
Through smiles and tears, accomplishments and trials
I hope you can feel my big hug over these thousands of miles

I’m sad that I can’t be with you for your birthday this year
But from somewhere in East Africa I send you my cheer
I pray that this birthday will be one of the best,
That you’re happy and healthy, peaceful and blessed!

Happy Birthday Mom!
I love you!
