As I was about to write, a song got stuck in my head. You probably know it. It goes like this:
Our God is amazing, steady and unchanging.
Your love is a mountain, firm beneath my feet.
Your love is a mystery, how You gently life me.
When I am surrounded, Your love carries me.
There is such a reason that song was in my head right now.
I got a new job a couple weeks ago and just finished training. While I was training, I only had a couple shifts per week. I remember thinking to myself, "Man, I hope they give me more shifts. I have all this time that I could be working." Well, I am now on my first week off-training, and I have eight shifts this week! I'm SO happy! God is so good. Now that I've talked about working, you're probably wondering what my new job is. Well, let me tell you.
I used to live about a half hour north of where I currently live. While I was there, I worked at a golf club doing banquets. I absolutely loved them. I loved smiling and serving people. I loved being a part of their celebration. It was like party-crashing… only I was getting paid for it. I worked there for a little over two years. Then, I moved to West Palm Beach. I ended up quitting my banquets job because of the commute. With school, homework, and new work so close to the house, it didn't make sense to continue working there. So, I stopped working banquets around February of this year. Around August, I really wanted to go back, but I just felt like God had something else for me. In the meantime, I had gotten a job tutoring and was really enjoying that.
So, when a job fair came to my university, I wasn't planning on going. But my roommate, Elaina, needed a job, so I decided I would go with her. Who knows, maybe they're passing out free stuff? We went after chapel and looked around. I had looked online at the listing of companies that were going to be represented and found a couple that I was interested in learning more about. First, I found Gospel for Asia, and I learned all about their organization. It's a fascinating organization, and I was so thankful when they gave me a couple of books to read. (They were really great books! Especially K.P. Yohannan's Revolution in World Missions. What an amazing story!) Then I met up with Elaina, and we were about to leave because there were mostly just financialy institutions and lawyer's offices – neither of which we were interested in. Right by the door was a table set up for The Breakers Palm Beach. Let me remind you that I really wasn't looking for a job, so when other companies had asked if I was looking for a part-time job I said no. But, this time I said yes. The hiring manager was at the job fair looking for people to work banquets. He interviewed both Elaina and me, and asked us to fill out an application online (which we both did that night). This was on Wednesday.
On Thursday, I got a call and the lady on the other line asked me if I was interested in working at The Breakers. Wow! Hired. Just like that. I went to orientation the next week, and started training a few days later. Now, why did I choose The Breakers over my old banquets job? Let me count the reasons. Number one, it is literally 5 minutes away from my university and 15 minutes away from my house. Secondly, the pay is like over double what I was making before. Also, it's The Breakers on Palm Beach Island. It's just so posh. Did I really just say that? Really though, it's fit for royalty. I loved serving and smiling before, and I'm loving it just as much – if not more – now.
So, while this is only one reason why that song is stuck in my head right now, I can think of another 20 reasons. God has blessed me so much.
