Marriage is a Ministry.

I had expectations about what being married on the World Race would look like. I knew we would have to be intentional about getting alone time (doesn’t everyone?) and we would get asked lots of questions about our love story, our wedding, and our relationship thus far. I knew it would be probably the best year of our marriage and most likely the most difficult. We would have to learn how to resolve conflict amongst a crowd, as well as feedback one another in community with our new World Race family.

Although it’s only been about 2 weeks, God has been showing me that our role as a married couple is so much bigger.

What I’m finding is that several of our squad members have had poor examples of loving relationships in the past and have expressed to Luke or I that they are excited to see an example of a Godly marriage. Without our conscious knowledge, they listen to how we talk to each other, they analyze our body language and conversations, and pay attention to the affection we show one another.

Our marriage is a ministry.

God has made this evident to me. We are not here just to minister to the people in Honduras, Romania, Uganda, etc. God has entrusted us to another ministry amongst our team and squad.

I’m not saying all this to portray the attitude of, “Look at us, we have it all together”. We definitely do not have it all together. Rather, we have been presented with an opportunity that God has provided us, to display a living example of what His love looks like towards His church.

My prayer is that God would give us the wisdom and grace to fulfill this role in the way He desires. We cannot do it without Him. On our wedding day, we committed ourselves to the Lord first, then to one another. This means that we do not only display our love for each other, but the Lord’s love for us and for all His children.

This year we offer our marriage to the Lord. We hope for renewal and change, to love more like Christ!

Lord, help us to minister to others for your glory!

The two of us during our date night away from the team 🙂

Love, Chelsey
