The other day we were able to visit some slums. If you read my latest blog I mentioned something about these slums and put a picture up of their homes. This community has around 30 to 40 families living in it and they practically have nothing. Their homes are made out of trash bags and sticks. Moreover, I was looking at most of their feet and their feet are filthy and beat up because they don’t have a good pair of shoes. When we left this place on Saturday I was heartbroken for these people. Not only was I heartbroken but my team was as well. We all took some time to process what we just saw staying quiet for a while.

When we got back to the house we hung out for a little while then ate dinner. After eating dinner, we came up with an idea of going back to feed this community. After some ideas were thrown around about how we would do this, we all decided that it would be best for us to buy them two huge bags of maize. Maize is a corn product that can be ground up into flour so they can eat the main meal served in Africa- Ugali. Pastor Moses, the contact we are staying with, said he would donate one bag and we could buy the other bag. Then we were to take the bags to the mill to get them ground into flour.

So we all followed through with what we said we were going to do and did exactly that on Monday. Each one of us on the team used some of our personal money and bought all the materials needed for the feeding. Then we headed back to the slums we visited on Saturday.

When we arrived the place looked deserted. However, five minutes after we pulled up we practically had the entire community at our car greeting us with smiles on their faces. Pastor Moses explained what we were doing and told them to line up so that each family could get their share of Maize.

The entire time I was scooping the food I was praying that God would multiply this food so that every single family would get their share. I am happy to tell you that each family received around 12 pounds each the first time around and we still had some extra to distribute among them.  The amount each family got will provide them food for around 1 week! Thank God for providing for this community!!!

I am so thankful that my team was able to be a part of Gods plan in feeding this community. Please pray that God will continue to send people to this community to provide for them. They really wanted shoes while we were there but we did not have any to give to them.
