Last Ministry
Oradea, Romania
Working with an amazing orphanage organization called Caminul Felix.
They’ve been running for about 20 years now right after some crazy rulers in Romania fell from power. They have 2 villages, which has from 6-10 houses at each. In each house there’s about 15 kids and house parents to take care of them. It’s an amazing ministry that one is clearly able to see how God has blessed this wonderful place.
What we’ve been doing for the past 3 weeks is construction. The first week was helping to extend 2 houses for more bedrooms. Lots of digging, concrete making, and shoveling. Good ‘ol hard labor.
For the past 2 weeks we’ve been working at a new house that is going to be a “transition house”. This means that a family with only a few kids left in the house, due to others getting old and leaving, are going to move out of their home and into this new one. This is so a new set of 15 or more kids and house parents can come into the already existing house for the next 20 years or so.
Getting to do some hands-on experience of construction has been good. Especially since I have very little expertise in any of it rather than hammering and shoveling. We did plastering of the outside wall, extending for a boiler room, installing insulation (oh boy what fun), and several other random jobs that needed to be done.
We worked a lot and went all out since it was our last month while on The World Race. In our time off we got to spend time with some of the local kids. Getting to hang out and play sports with them has been great. They also spoke pretty good English, so it was even more amazing to be with them.
