This is a repost of Jake Kennedy’s blog,
an incredible man of God who is also a great photographer and all
around cool guy. He’s talking about a dance competition we had in
Ireland against all the other squads out on the mission field right now.

————So here is another video from our time in Ireland at the
conference called The Awakening. Each squad had to put together a dance
that would be performed in front of everyone one afternoon and the
winners got a bag of skittles, which probably doesn’t sound exciting to
you all, but take a 8 month mission trip around the world and then some
candy from home begins to be the most amazing prize you could receive.
Anyways our squad is blessed with two incredible people: Caleb Dufresne and Jessi Marquez
who both took up the task of getting 50 or so adults excited and
trained to perform a dance. No small task in any sense. They did
incredible though, and unified our squad more than any of us could have a
imagined. Needless to say we won (we dominated!).

So the dance had a
few requirements:
it had to have at least 30 seconds of a Christmas
song
it could be no more than 6 or 7 minutes long (something like that)
it
had to include everyone on the squad
blah, blah, blah
anyways judge for
yourselves..hope you enjoy…sorry the audio is not as clear as it could
be…oh yeah so i will explain the last part before you watch.

so the
last thing we do is what is called the Ka Mate Haka. It is a Maori
traditional war chant. One of our teams while in New Zealand were
working with the Maori people and were taught this Haka. They then were
kind enough to teach it to us. It is a haka about rebirth and life.
the words and translation are below:

Ka mate! Ka mate!
Ka ora! Ka ora!
Ka
mate! Ka mate!
Ka ora! Ka ora!
Tenei te tangata puhuru huru
Nana nei i
tiki mai
Whakawhiti te ra
A upa … ne! ka upa … ne!
A upane kaupane whiti te
ra!
Hi!

I die! I die!
I live! I live!
I die! I die!
I live! I live!
This is
the hairy man
Who fetched the Sun
And caused it to shine again
One upward
step!
Another upward step!
An upward step, another … the Sun shines!

I
hope you enjoy our dance!!
