One of the days last week we didn’t have very much scheduled, so we spent the afternoon in prayer. We split ourselves into two teams (I was with Seth, Krystle, and Jeanette) to do an ATL (Ask the Lord). Basically a prayer walk, were we are asking God to direct our path (literally) and lead us to pray for people. We walked for a good twenty minutes before we had any major interaction. We ran into a guy coming back from fishing. His name was Suchas, and at first appeared to speak very little English. We just started talking to him on the road as we walked. We told him what we were doing—prayer walking—and he thought it was good. We asked if we could pray for him—he said yes—and we asked if there was anything specific we could pray for. He said his mother was home and had gone blind. So he led us to his house, and we spent some time praying over here. Suchas had lived in Arizona for 10 years, and spoke fairly solid English. He acted as a translator between his mother and us. It was so amazing how God worked that out. His mother, Boonmi, asked what we wanted from them. We told her we didn’t want anything; that we just desired for her to know Jesus and allow us to pray over her. She was very grateful and kept thanking us. When we left, we asked Suchas if we could come back with the rest of our team, our translator, and the pastor. He was very excited, and said we could come anytime. Saturday we were able to return with 11 people total to pray over Boonmi. Suchas wasn’t there, but his brother was, and sat attentively listening to us converse and pray with his mother. We prayed for Boonmi for a while—though, her blindness was not healed, she said she could feel our love. She will remain in my prayers, and though I may never know what happens in her life or her sons’, they are all God’s children, and hopefully we have planted seeds that others will help sow.
