I’ve got a flight booked back to Africa on September 3.
I’ve been in Arizona since I arrived back in the United States visiting my brother and his family. In my time here, along with working on videos for the family ministries department at Rock Point Church, where my brother is a youth pastor, I have felt God calling me to join two of the other pastors, Pastor Gary Norton and Pastor Bill Bush, on a trip to Malawi, Africa where I will be filming and documenting their work as well as capturing the stories and testimonies of the people that they are working with there.
I’ll be gone September 3-18 and I do need to raise around $3,000 for the trip. This project has a non-profit 501(c)(3) named Something’s Gotta Change who I am raising money though so donations are fully tax-deductible.
Please consider donating to the expenses of this trip:
| $1,628 | Tickets to and from Malawi |
| $75 | Hotel in Johannesburg |
| $350 | Hotel in Malawi |
| $600 | Food for Trip |
| $45 | Malaria Medication |
| $28 | Trip Medical Insurance |
| $400 | Airfare to and from D.C. |
| $3,126 | Total Cost |
You can give online through Something’s Gotta Change’s 501(c)(3) here:
Or you can give directly to me without going though the organization by doing a “gift” transaction to me through Paypal using the email [email protected].
Pastor Gary Norton has completed seven trips to Malawi developing a project called The Trio Initiative.
In Malawi pastors serve from a position of relational isolation out of a fear of being found out and thrown out. This reality is systemic in Malawi. A safe setting is needed in which pastors and wives can be open, expressing struggles and sins, a place of non-judgmental unconditional loving grace. Only in this light does one have the atmosphere needed for growth and health. Without relationships that develop us personally and spiritually through transparency and vulnerability, secrecy and sickness loom. Intentional relationships are needed where the focus is being transparent and being with Jesus.
The “trios” discipleship model is a peer discipleship group of three participants per group who meet together weekly to study God’s word, pray and encourage one another. Trios are a place where participants are free to live authentic, vulnerable, grace-filled lives that result in healthy marriages, healthy families and healthy churches.
There are currently over 250 trios with more than 750 pastors, wives and church leaders from different denominations and backgrounds that have been formed in Malawi.
Pastors Bill and Gary will be teaching and ministering to pastors and their wives during our time there. The team in Malawi now has a presence in 32 villages and counting. We will be visiting and ministering in about 14 villages as well as Sunday services.
After this trip, only God knows where I will end up!
Thank you for all of your support.
God Bless,
Tim Larson
