Digging Our Own Grave

Part: 3

When do we crave to close to Jesus the most? When do we long to feel the presence of God? When do we desperately cry out to God to make himself evident in our lives?

It’s when we need him; it’s when we have nothing left to turn to. It’s when we have tried everything on our own and our last and final attempt; our only option left is Jesus. It is when our lives are falling apart and we feel like we have dug our own grave and now we are laying in it. As we are laying it, it begins to rain so and the dirt begins to turn into mud, heavy mud. And as the mud gets heavier and heavier, it begins to fall into the hole we are in. we feel it hitting our limbs and our face. The walls become so drenched, the heavy and cold mud begins to come faster and the walls eventually start to give in. its only then, only then when we feel as if our only option left is to cry out for Jesus to save us somehow or some way.

The amazing thing is, is that is when God makes his presence known full well to us. When we are so desperate for him and we realize that we have no control… that is when God saves us from ourselves.
When we have been rained on, dirtied up, left for dead and the walls are caving in on us, that is when we are so eager and willing to listen to what God has to say to us and we are willing to accept his help. We realize that anything we try to do is just going to make it rain harder or weaken the walls. What we could do, and what some of us do is watch as the walls around us slowly crumble down around us until we have buried ourselves alive. We are often too prideful to admit when are broken and would rather die by our own sword than ask for a hand or cry out for help.

The signs that the walls are going to crash in are usually right there, but they are frequently overlooked or ignored. We ignore the signs because it’s easier than admitting that we are helpless. Sometimes we overlook the signs because we have not realized that for one we are not in our own grave, and two we don’t even realize that we have been digging at all. We don’t realize that our lifestyle or our actions could potentially be slowly wrecking our lives. Just like a seed does not turn into a tree over night, neither do we usually realize the damage we are doing to ourselves over night. Its is not until we are far too deep to pull ourselves out of the hole we have dug ourselves into that we understand the predicament we are in.

So how do we avoid digging our own grave and burying ourselves in it? Is it even possible? How do we prevent something that we don’t know is coming? Well I have some bad news and some good news and if you would like to know what I’m talking about, keep reading.
