Month 3 has been a joyful, crazy learning experience. My team has been serving a bilingual school, Loyalty School, about 15 minutes from the capital Tegucigalpa, Honduras. This month we have enjoyed local cuisine, beautiful mountain views and the constant companionship of the creepiest of crawlers.
Myself and Kelsey Bayse have specifically been working with their preschool class. Five crazy, wacky, charismatic kids who I have come to adore and gained many memories I will forever cherish.
To the left, Jose David. A handful to say the least, and dear sweetheart to make up for his crazy outbursts.
To the right, my four little angels Kimberly, Danyly, Isa and Rashell. Completely different personalities yet all adorable handfuls of joy.
Our first week here the students competed in a Sports Week. This included cheers, sack races, dodgeball, foot races and of course soccer. A wonderful way to get to know the kids and tire them out in the process.
The second week we were privileged to attend Chiminike Museum with our preschoolers, 1st and 2nd graders. It was so much fun, not only for the kids but me too! I’d never been to an interactive children’s museum before. The kids were allowed to scream, dance and run around all they wanted while touring the museum.
They were encouraged to touch, play and interact with everything the museum had to offer. My favorite part was seeing the girls and boys play dress up. I met superman, a pirate, firefighter, astronaut, police officer, soldier and princess all in one day! They climbed up a molecule like rope fort, enjoyed water sport fishing, went shopping, learned about the body in fun new ways, learned more about Honduras history by laying on a nail like bed and even arrested their teachers.
This experience was kindly donated to Loyalty School by another local school. Loyalty School is built on their sponsors. They offer a bilingual education to underprivileged children throughout the community without burdening their families with school tuition fees. A bilingual education offers a brighter future for these children in a loving christian atmosphere.
This brings me to Danyly. This angel has touched my heart and soul. This precious preschooler surrounds herself with joy in every challenge she faces. Bringing joy to me and others who accompany her.
I learned early this month Danyly lives with her grandmother due to an absent mother and father. Parent’s are often absent in the lives of many Honduran children. This is common in the culture and sometimes due to parent’s relocating to the states for work yet disappearing completely.
Our host, Mr. Flores, mentioned early in the month he is looking to increase sponsorships for students. Tugging at my heart strings I quickly realized I wanted to help in whatever way the Lord led me.
Just as many of you have so kindly sponsored me i’ve decided to sponsor Danyly because I know she is my purpose for being in Honduras. She needs someone to love her for no reason except for being who she was. Just like God loves us everyday for who we are. No matter our circumstances and mistakes he loves us. My desire is to make sure she never looses her joy and knows that I love her and want to see her succeed.
If you are interested in also sponsoring a student at Loyalty School email me or message Mr. Flores through their Facebook account at Loyalty School, Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
