Two days ago we started our adventures out towards Tibet. We started early Thursday morning when we got on a bus out of Atlantis to a city about 8 hours away. This bus held about 20 of us and was filled to the max with Chinese people. The seats were so small that sitting on the aisle seat half my butt hung off. Thank goodness for the a couple of the South Africans who weren’t afraid to make the Chinese smokers put out their cigarettes!
On this 8 hour ride I had my first experience of using the outdoor bathroom in China…aka the snow. It was quite interesting as the bus stopped and all the men went one way, while us girls headed behind a cliff. Quite the experience when it was that cold outside. I might have froze about 8 pounds of my flesh off in the process.
After arriving in our destination city, where we would spend the night, we soon found out there was a real KFC in the city! We quickly ventured via taxi to eat the best meal we had in weeks. It wasn’t quite like the KFC’s back home, all the chicken was spicy, but very satisfying. Much better than an anchovie pizza!
Friday morning we got on an even longer bus ride to J Tree, which is the town where I write from. We left about 11am in the morning and arrived this morning at 6:30am. That was quite a miserable trip for some as they suffered altitude and motion sickness. Luckily I was ok, but didn’t get much sleep.
This morning we checked into a hotel and slept for a few hours. Tomorrow morning we will leave for our city of ministry, which I am choosing to call Yu Mon. I can’t wait to see how God works there! Pray because these people are very unreached by the gospel. On the last night we get to play mission impossible and track bomb some monastaries in the middle of the night.
I hope to learn a little Kung Fu before I leave China. Maybe people will think I am Jackie Chan’s cousin.
