As the United States teams and the South African teams finished climbing the volcano to end the 2nd leg of the race (which we won by the way!!), we all met up together in San Pedro, Guatemala around Lake Atitlan. Anna Marie the South African partner who will be traveling around the world with us had a “get to know each other” meeting. The American teams have been working together for a month already so we needed to introduce ourselves to the 9 new South Africans.

Anna Marie called a meeting together in a restaurant beside the gorgeous Lake Atitlan. She told us to go around and talk about ourselves for 5 minutes so the rest of the group could know us better. After we each spoke, Anna Marie asked us to partner up with one other person who was similar to us and who we could relate to the best after hearing our personalities. The most interesting thing happened…. The four Americans on my team blue (Chad, Tauna, Kim, and myself) partnered up with the four South Africans on the yellow team. When I looked at each person’s personality I couldn’t help but see how the blue team and yellow teams mirrored one another.

The next day it came time to decide what villages all the teams would split up to minister. My team felt that God wanted us to take the village that the other teams didn’t choose. Well, yellow team had the same idea. Anna Marie decided that the Blue and Yellow teams would go to Panajachel and work with all the Hurricane Stan victims. A woman in Panajachel decided to bless our 2 teams with her gigantic house to live in for the next month.

When we got to the house we couldn’t believe how big and beautiful her house was. It feels like we are living in a house in the United States. We each have a bed, there is a full kitchen, 2 bathrooms and a dining room table that can seat all 10 of us. The only downfall is we only have running water from 7am-8am so we fill all the tubs but the water is very dirty and cold. The first floor of the house is decorated in blue and the second floor is decorated in yellow (haha). We all feel so blessed we can spend this month together in this beautiful house and bring our 2 teams together for ministry. When we are all out on the field helping to rebuild the hurricane victims’ lives, yellow and blue really do make green. (For more information on yellow team check them out on their webpage)
