On the way home from lunch, my friend pulled the car over and stopped to talk to a man who clearly needed a ride.

His name is Charles.

He couldn't hear, so through communicating to him by writing in my little notebook, we learned a little about his life and were able to take him to run some errands.

We pulled into his drive way to drop him off and my heart started to break.

His house was literally falling in on itself. There was no door, but a piece of plywood leaned up against a hole in the wall as the entrance  to his home.

I wrote this for Charles to read as we were about leave…

As we were leaving, I thought, "Can we just walk away?"

And then, I asked, "God why did you lead us to Charles? Why did you have us pursue him, a man who has no influence, no family, no community, no work? How is he beneficial to you God? Why did you have us go out of our way today for this man?

And then my Dad responded ever so graciously, "I pursue my children's hearts not because they are beneficial to me, but because they are precious in my sight."

"I have created my sons and daughters for greatness. To shine my light into the nations. To bring me glory and unveil my kingdom here on this earth,
But I do not pursue you, my beloved, because of what you can do, but because I want your heart, your whole heart, all your love, because you are precious to me. I love you."
