Last night I went to a church service in Chimaltenango. (Iglesia Shalom) It was awesome! The body of beautiful believers welcomed us with encouraging words and warm smiles.
For a second, I wondered to myself, "Why are they so happy to see us?" And then I was like, "duh! we're brothers and sisters! We are family who were just finally getting to meet each other!"

It was the way church is supposed to be! It's not about a building. It's not about comfy chairs. or a nice sound system. or how charismatic the preacher is.

It's about the body! It's about the people! It's about coming together to praise the Lord. and digging into His word together. and bearing each others burdens. and speaking truth into each others lives.

This morning I went to church again in Guatemala City. and they spoke English! It was so refreshing to come along side other believers who I could actually understand without using dramatic hand gestures.

And then tonight I went back to Iglesia Shalom. They invited us to the front and asked us to sing! We sang worship songs to the Lord! What an honor! Right? It was amazing! I knew God was rejoicing at the unity being formed in His church. Tonight His body came together and lifted His name on high despite our differences in culture, worship style, race and language.

This is the way it's supposed to be!

"Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others." -Romans 12: 4-5
