11 months in 11 different countries? With a pack on my back and not really much else?
Hmm. What do I expect October ’10 to Aug ’11 to look like?
Not really sure about this. Any of it. It’s an adventure, right? And a real adventure involves a whole lot of great unknowns.
I’m expecting to be broken. To experience something that really hits my heart and dares me to try to keep silent about it.
I’m expecting to face some tough things with the team…things we’ll have to work out and work through and settle. No one is perfect, and a year almost of living with the same people in some intense situations is likely to create some intense situations, right? But I’m also expecting that as far as the team goes, it’ll be great. If we can learn to work together and build each other up, the year will be wonderful. I think I’ll be meeting a ton of really awesome people!
I’m expecting to face doubts. To face lots of heavy questions and surprise events.
I expect to be challenged, to move and to be pulled forward by a loving God who is always good.
I expect to see God moving in the most unlikely places.
And I expect to experience times when I feel alone, scared, and discouraged too.
I expect to see the bluntness of my humanity and mortality…and to face the questions that come after Death steals someone away.
If there’s one thing I know about expectations, it’s normally a waste of time to have them. (Especially when you’re letting God lead!) Because often times, God has something in store for you that you wouldn’t ever dream He’d have planned. Sometimes, all the planning and expecting in the world gets you nowhere but unprepared.
I am a daughter of the King, and I believe that no matter what is thrown my way, my identity in Him will not be destroyed. He is the only strength I have and He is the only good thing worth living and dying for.
Expectations? I guess I’m sort of going to have to expect the unexpected.
“Look at the nations and watch
and be utterly amazed.
For I am going to do something in your days
that you would not believe,
even if you were told.” Hab. 1:5
This guy Habakkuk was a prophet. And God told HIM that he’d be shocked at what God was going to do! God made a promise to Habakkuk – and He kept it.
This is going to be a fun journey…
…you ready?
