So, when my mother reads this, it will be the first time she’s heard this story.

I almost died the other day. Not figuratively, there wasn’t a super cute dog or anything like that. I literally almost died. The only reason I’m able to write this blog is because God was with us.
We needed to drive to Tegucigalpa the other day in order to buy food and supplies and stuff. Mama Gracie has been really busy getting ready for her trip to the States, and so the task was given to the four men here at the mission: Papi Lee, Matthew, Dillon, and myself. Since Papi Lee doesn’t drive stick shifts, I volunteered to drive into Tegu and Dillon would drive back. About halfway, we had to stop at a Texaco gas station so that Matthew and Dillon could hop in the back of the truck to guard the Rubbermaid tubs so that they wouldn’t be stolen. The station was on the left, so as we got close, I signaled for a left hand turn, pulled more towards the middle of the road, slowed down and started to turn in. Suddenly, we all heard the screeching of tires, and turned out to see a bus spinning out of control. It was speeding by about 30 or 40 kph and had decided that it couldn’t wait for me to turn in and tried to pass on the left, instead of staying safely to the right. All I could think was “Please God, don’t let that bus flip over….” and he heard and kept all for wheels on the ground.
Had he gone to the right or even stayed where he was, he would have had plenty of room. He was within a few feet of t-boning our truck at 50 or so mph. God was watching out for us and for the driver. Luckily, there were no passengers in the bus. It was the first time in a long time I have felt real, pure fear. I drove the rest of the way to Walmart with my hands shaking. So for all of you future racers our there, or current racers going to Honduras (A Squad), please note that left hand turns are really dangerous, so make sure to pray A LOT, triple check your mirrors, pray again, turn fast, and pray all the way through the turn. And it’d probably be prudent to say a little thank you prayer at the end too…
Mom, don’t worry, I’m ok.
