I was never so thankful to have running water at home as I am now. I can guarantee you that spending almost a week without being able to flush the toilet is not fun nor easy. It’s crazy how I’ve spent my life taking for granted how blessed I’m to be able to use one without having to worry about refilling the tank!

It is amazing to be able to go to the bathroom without being worried/scared to find something nasty there, waiting for me and my bucket to have the work done. (Believe me, the struggle was real this past week).

It is wonderful to be able to wash my hands (with soap! alleluia!) just by opening the faucet! no need to use a cup, which btw had been touched by many others before me.

Although it was a hard experience (you know, it has been one of those  hazards in life that will never be forgotten) I’m thankful that God allowed this to happen. It was not only about understanding the importance of taking care of the water and being thankful with what I have… it was also about learning to ask for help to God and trusting that He would take care of the situation. If I had been at home and something like this had happened, I am sure I would have called the plumber and everything would have been fixed in a matter of an hour (We didn’t have water because our water pump was broken, so yeah!it was a “fixable situation”). However, here in the DR, things were different:

1) We didn’t have the money to pay for the water pump to be fixed.

2) We weren’t able to fixed it even if we had the money as this is not our house and this decision had to  be taken by the owner.

3) We didn’t know any plumber or a place to find one!

So, I was forced to run to my Father rather than to a plumber. I was forced to seek for the help of the best Helper. I was forced to talk to my Creator about my problem and all the feelings involved rather than to a random friend. It was the opportunity to have God as the first and only source of hope! It was great!!!

One piece of advice that I was given during training camp was: “Do not run from uncomfortable situations and you will learn what dependence on the Lord really means.” It is hilarious how a toilet problem helped me to grow closer to God. I’ve definitely learned to seek Him before seeking human help. I’ve learned that He can fix a water pump without my intervention.

Before coming to the DR I prayed that I would be able to be a witness of His great power in action. It is crazy that now one of the ways that He lets me see it in a daily basis is when flushing the toilet! Thanks God for fixing the water pump, thanks God for allowing me to enjoy the pleasure of having running water at home!!!
