Cedreck the "Rock Star"

Last Week in Malaybalay City, Cedreck, a 13 year old at the New Faith Family Children’s Home, started teaching me guitar…and here is the story!
Cedreck is really special boy with an amazing story of the Lord’s redemption upon his life & he is gifted musically…He has only been playing guitar for 6 months, but knows many songs & chords. This past week I decided to listen to him play for a while and sing along…Then I asked him if I could see his guitar. He let me see it, and I told him that I did not know how to play. I laughed at myself as I tried to play, just like I have other times I have picked up a guitar…
Then I asked Cedreck: “ Do you think that I can play guitar?”.
He said; “ Yes, Of Course…”
I looked at him and laughed dissapointedly; Then I said; “ I think my hand is too small”
Then he looked at me and said; “Even a child can play!”
I thought about it and then he showed me a few chords… After watching him I tried and couldn’t get it. Cedreck patiently assisted me and with detail showed me time & time again until I got a few chords. He encouraged me with each cord I got right & told me I was doing a great job! He lit up with joy as he saw I was learning to play…
Cedreck reminded me to have faith, patience, and persistance…and to not give up or doubt myself…
He also reminded me that; “I CAN do ALL things through CHRIST who gives me STRENGTH” ( Philippians 4:13).
So, I asked him if he would give me lessons and he said yes…So just about every day that we could, for a week, Cedreck taught me guitar. It was decided that I could learn “Lord I Lift Your Name on High” because it was a simple song. At first when I started practicing it was not so easy! = ) Because of Cedreck’s patience and persistance with me, Last night we played the duo as promised!
Although today our team left Malaybalay City, the memories of Cedreck will remain in my heart every time I practice guitar. I will think of that November on the World Race, when this 13 year old boy encouraged me to try something I never thought I could be able to do! In addition to that, I have found a new outlet where I can praise the Lord through musical worship…
